Following today's revelation in the Daily Express that new doubts have been cast on the science of climate change because IPCC-head Rajendra Pachauri is a former railway engineer (not such recent news, since this all harks back to a Christopher Booker article in the Telegraph from the end of last year), Halfwaytoheaven would like exclusively reveal that the fanciful idiocy of climate scepticism was today further undermined when it was discovered that leading planet-death propaganda-sheet, the Daily Express, is written by journalists who need something to sell newspapers with when they can't think of anything new to invent about the death of Princess Diana.
Unfortunately, we fear that our revelations will have less of an impact on Prius sales, than the Express's earth-cidal nonsense will appease the conscience of this week's buyers of large-engined 4x4s.
I have spent the weekend thinking about the unstoppable dynamic of New Creation, and shouldn't be as bleak as this. But how can this be allowed. The people that write this must know that this is nonsense. And surely know the long term damage our blinkered self-deception is causing our children.
Note that climate change scientists are abused for not meeting manufactured ethical standards which are (note that in the article Pachauri is referred to as controversial, while opponents are simply described as scientists or specialists) whilst the petroleum links of the deniers is given nary a mention. This is the kind of hypocrisy which got the prophets vocalising. I note Franny Armstrong in Third Way saying In 30 or 40 years' time I think there will be an environmental criminal court, in the same way that there's an international criminal court now, and they're going to be asking: Whose fault was it? I think the media will be on trial and clearly, the politicians; and also the oil industry. They've spent millions of dollars deliberately confusing the public, and hey! it worked.
Will Anil Dawar of the Express find himself in the dock over this stuff, or will the Express find a convenient way of airbrushing this out of its history, just like some of the other less-glorious chapters in its history.
I note that the online version has extra stuff about the melting of glaciers (this was the missing from the front-page of the garage forecourt edition on sale in Burnside earlier today - no way was I giving the Express any money, so the inside pages remain unread). I will try to chase the paper-trail on this one in future blogs.
